Computer Attachment Security Policy
Encryption

USB flash drives, thumb drives and external disk drives should follow these policies assuming the device contains PHI.

  • Password Protected
When an external device is plugged into a computer, it must require a password to access the device

  • Sentence Based Passwords
Password: Epj1taw comes from the sentence: Eat pizza just 1 time a week

  • Encrypted Storage (disk drive, hard drive, solid state drive)
The file system on the external device must be encrypted

  • Full disk encryption is recommended over encrypting just certain files.

Promo: For a limited time, the ClinicNerds offer a free service to small clinics: Get your computer devices NerdSecured. By phone/email, we will help you enable encryption on your computer attachments such as USB flash drives.
